Big Cinema, Small Cinema #59 – Shadows and other games

Film still aus from the animation film JACK AND THE BEANSTALK: The silhouette of a boy against plants and blue sky.

Sun 12.03.
16:00

We have selected shadows and other games: Using scissors and black paper, Lotte Reiniger conjured up the most beautiful silhouette films on screen; in JACK AND THE BEANSTALK, beans grow tall in the sky. In DER KLANG, DIE WELT (G 2018) by Robert Beavers, 93-year-old Dieter Staehelin plays cello at home. Surrounded by sheet music, he talks about what music means to him. In TIRANA, brave children slide down a concrete slope that was not intended for such behavior. MY NAME IS OONA by Gunvor Nelson shows her daughter Oona riding like a princess in high-contrast black and white. In FADENSPIELE 3, the sisters Detel and Ute Aurand paint the landscape and animals of the Swiss mountains in short animations. (Ute Aurand)
